Additive manufacturing (AM) is a technology that expanded rapidly because of its flexibility, ability of advanced designing, reaching a high specialization and complexity of components and reducing the costs of tooling and the time to market.
The times when metal AM was used only for fast prototyping or short series productions are over and at present many efforts are being made to render the technology suitable for industrial mass production. The agenda of this event is tailored to cover the full value chain connected to metal AM, which includes suppliers of metal powder, design of additive manufacturing, the process development, automation and the manufacturing tools themselves, the post-manufacturing activities, including characterization and metrology, and the end-users. This technology has a wide range of applications and great potential for expansion. In medicine, metal AM can provide e.g. patient-specific dental and spinal implants, while in the energy sector can be a flexible tool to manufacture relatively quickly replacement components or also repair damaged existing ones in the energy production chain. The aviation, space and automotive sectors can also profit from metal AM and its advantages, supplying e.g. individual fuel nozzles up to complex engine assemblies. Architects, artists and designers can use this technology for very accurate model construction.
