PIXAPP is the world’s first open-access Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) Assembly and Packaging Pilot line, and helps users exploit the breakthrough advantages of PIC technologies. PIXAPP consists of a highly-interdisciplinary team of Europe’s leading industrial & research organisations, and provides users with single-point access to PIC assembly and packaging. The Pilot Line Gateway Office is PIXAPP‘s the easy-access interface for external users, and is located at the Tyndall National Institute, in Ireland. The Gateway is managed by an experienced team, including technical experts to review incoming user requests, and project managers to organise the PIXAPP supply chain. PIXAPP bridges the ‘valley of death’ often associated with moving from prototyping to low-volume fabrication, by giving companies an easy-access route to transferring R&D results to the market.
MIRPHAB is an all-service integrated Pilot Line for the development of MID-IR photonics sensors in Europe, a single-access point to the best technology provided by a consortium of leading companies in the field of photonics. MIRPHAB offers services from market analysis, design and fabrication to the final packaging of prototypes. MIRPHAB’s main objective is to transform your ideas into products and to quickly introduce them into the market.
PIX4life provides silicon nitride integrated technology specially optimized for such applications. Examples of these are multicolour sources for spectroscopy or cytometry, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and labelled sensors.
JePPIX (InPULSE pilot line) is the EC Manufacturing Pilot Line project for photonic integrated circuits. InPulse is the Indium-Phosphide Pilot Line for up-scaled, low-barrier, self-sustained, PIC ecosystem. InP photonic integrated circuits (PICs) offer game changing performance capabilities across multiple market sectors. InPulse is the EC Manufacturing Pilot Line which puts in place the technological and operational processes to:
1) Accelerate the uptake of PIC technology in new markets
2) Align scalable and inter-locking services and value chains
3) Accelerate time to market with predictive design for fewer and faster design cycles
4) Offer foundry processes at TRL7, sharing process optimization across products
InPulse combines low entrance-threshold, mature-manufacturing to enable tens of European PIC innovators. InPulse partners already play a pioneering role in open access InP PICs. The technology is available for experimental prototypes through JePPIX. InPulse enable high TRL development in a scalable design kit driven process, driving open access InP PICs from proof of concept to industrial prototyping and pre-production.
MedPhab is Europe’s first Pilot Line dedicated to manufacturing, testing, validation and up-scaling of new photonics technologies for medical applications ranging from diagnostics to surgical tools and therapeutics. The purpose of MedPhab pilot production line is to accelerate the commercialisation of diagnostic devices and instruments for treatment based on photonics, and to reduce the R&D costs. The chosen areas are devices intended for hospital use (assist doctors), home care devices (monitoring patient) and equipment for chemical diagnostics (based on use of serum, saliva or urine sample). MedPhab will also provide seamless transition from pilot line production to up-scaled production without a need for changing service providers. Use-case companies have been selected for the validation of the pilot line services covering both in-vivo and in-vitro domains.
PHABULOuS is the new European Pilot Line providing highly advanced & robust manufacturing technology for optical free-form μ-structures. It will unify Europe’s leading Companies and Research & Technology Organizations (RTOs) into a self-sustainable pilot line for the design and manufacturing of free-form micro-optical solutions. These latter components will be integrated into high added-value devices, spanning from micro displays for augmented reality, to innovative systems for professional, automotive, and transportation lighting to optical effects for luxury. The PHABULOuS consortium will synchronize its efforts to translate urgent and high-impact industrial needs into industrially relevant predictive software packages, manufacturing tools and processes, characterization methods for quality inspection and integration schemes, all necessary for the successful demonstration of this technology in pre-commercial production runs.
